Hotel Manang, Thamel, Kathmandu – February 20, 2026

The 3rd International Human Harmony Conference & Award 2026, organized by Human Harmony Nepal, recognized Rajah Banerjee (Swaraj Kumar Banerjee) of India in the category of Environmentalist for his pioneering contributions to sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and organic innovation.

Mr. Banerjee is a renowned tea planter, environmentalist, and writer, best known for his stewardship of his ancestral Makaibari Tea Estate in Darjeeling, which his family managed from 1859 to 2017. As the fourth-generation manager of Makaibari, he transformed the estate into a model of sustainability, making it organic and bio-dynamic, and positioning Darjeeling tea as a global symbol of ecological harmony.

He is celebrated for his unique creation of Silver Needle Moonlight Plucked Teas, harvested only at midnight on a full moon night during the spring season in Darjeeling, a practice that reflects his deep respect for nature and tradition. His leadership in the organic movement has inspired generations of tea growers and environmentalists worldwide.

By honoring Rajah Banerjee, the 3rd International Human Harmony Conference & Award 2026 celebrated the transformative role of environmental leaders in advancing sustainable production, ecological balance, and cultural heritage, aligning with the vision of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
